My Story
This is a little story about myself, and how we got here in business.
Eight years after leaving the Marine Corps, I developed a disorder. The doctors at the VA hospital in Atlanta, Georgia told me I would never be able to hold a normal job again, and they knew very little about how to treat it. They offered me disability. I declined at the time, because I believed I could still work a normal job.
So I set out to prove the doctors wrong. For the last 36 years, I have been proving it, to the doctors and to myself.
I started by learning new skills I could take out on my own, building my resume one skill set at a time. I did it by applying for jobs that would teach me the things I wanted to learn.
I started working for a friend who renovated burn units for the city of Atlanta. He taught me drywall repair and installation. After mastering that, I applied at a company in New Jersey to teach me custom cabinet installation, and I stayed until I became good at it. I then applied at a company to teach me custom ceramic tile installation, until I became proficient at that. Then I found another company to teach me custom trim, like crown molding, chair rails and more.
Meanwhile, the military sent me to Lincoln Technical Institute in Union, New Jersey, to broaden my skill level. DirecTV hired me out of Lincoln Tech, and I spent 7 years on the road with them, proving to myself and to the world that doctors can deem you finished, but God has the last word.
“Doctors can deem you finished, but God has the last word.”
And now, after 36 years of building and believing in myself, here we are.
